About TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES (MUMBAI)

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements and Cutoffs for PG Programmes in Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)

  • Candidates should have successfully completed Bachelor's or Master's Degree of minimum of 3 or 4 years duration or its equivalent from a university recognized by UGC of India.
  • Candidates who will successfully complete, in all respects, all the requirements of their final year eligible degree (including all examinations and internships, if applicable) are also eligible to apply.

Scholarships

Scholarships for the Meritorious students :

A limited number of scholarships and endowments have been created by eminent individuals, foundations and the corporate sector and are available to needy students on the basis of merit-cumneed.

The Institute has limited funds to provide aid to economically needy students with annual family income below Rs. 4 lakhs. After the commencement of the academic session, students may apply for student aid against the notification issued by the OSA in this regard. The Student’s Aid Committee of the Institute takes decisions on the basis of the need and availability of funds.
